Pastor Wilson Bugembe is the one of the founders of the charity Mercy Childcare and pastor of the Worship House, one of the largest growing churches in Kampala, Uganda. In addition, he’s a well-known Christian singer in his country, winning multiple awards as a top Christian artist.

He’s friends with Prospector Ranch owner Meggan and her husband Chris. He recently came over to visit, and they went on a relaxing trip to Montana, where they took some time to unwind and let their minds slow down, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Pastor Bugembe is a busy man, focused on not only his duties as President of Mercy Childcare, but also the responsibilities of running Worship House as the lead pastor of 6,000 people in the congregation. His vacation with Meggan and Chris enabled him to take a minute to calm his mind and reconnect with God. Being Montana even inspired ideas for sermons.

When did these ideas come to him, you may ask?

While he was fishing.

It was a very relaxing time that enabled him to recharge and face life stronger than ever.

Pastor Bugembe’s story is an inspirational one. Orphaned as a child and being forced to live on the streets, he grew up to found Mercy Childcare, a charity that seeks to help people like he once was and others who need help.

For Pastor Bugemebe, the most fulfilling part about starting the charity are the smiles. According to him, there is nothing on earth more fulfilling than putting a smile on an orphan, a broken heart, or a widow.

It’s priceless.

For the future, he wants to see the charity be self-sustaining.

Pastor Bugemebe didn’t always know he was going to be a pastor, nor a singer. Growing up, he had always enjoyed singing. It was a part of his world, a way to process both life’s ups and downs. One day, someone he knew recommended that, since he sings all the time anyway, he record what he sings.

That’s how he started down the path of being an artist. He started singing about his story, his past and how he met Jesus. He let God do the work from there. He believes that God uses what you’re good at to help others and do His work. That’s what he attributes to his successes in his life.

To him, God is a musician. He created the songs in everyone on this earth. Music can be a soothing balm on broken hearts, it can be the words you need when language itself isn’t enough. Music can help bring people’s walls down, and bring souls closer to God. Being able to be a part of this powerful form of communication brings him nothing but joy.

As for being a pastor, the decision to become one was simple: he lost the appetite for anything else but prayer. He had no traditional schooling for the career of a pastor, but he didn’t let that stop him. The church he created started out with just 9 people to begin with. From there, it only grew. At first, they had no concrete place to meet, instead gathering at different places in the open air. Then, after a while, they got a tent. Eventually, they gathered enough funds to assemble the beginnings of a building structure. Right now, they have a roof, and are working on raising the funds to fill in the walls. Currently, the church is home to about 6,000 members, and it’s still growing to this day.

God does work in mysterious ways. Pastor Bugembe went from nothing, to the president of a strong charity making a difference in the lives of many people, and a Christian leader in his community. His story is an inspirational example of the power of resolve and dedication.
