Remembering Those Who Have Served

~ Natalia Radcliffe ~

Happy November! We’re running headfirst into the holiday season. Be careful! Blink and it’ll be Thanksgiving before you know it.

On the subject of Thanksgiving, in the midst of the hustle and bustle that comes with this time of year, it can be easy to forget to stop and smell the roses from time to time. That’s why we like to make sure to take some time every holiday season to breathe and remember things we are grateful for. As Veteran’s Day has recently passed, we want to take this week to focus on those in our lives who have served our country.

Here on the Prospector Ranch Team, we have many in our lives who have served, including Meggan herself. Specifically, her father and two of her nephews all served. In addition, her late friend and neighbor Dr. Robert Miller, a well-known veterinarian, served during World War II. He ended up being stationed in Germany, and though he didn’t see any fighting, he still saw the effects of war which stayed with him long past his days in the military. We interviewed him for a Veteran’s Day article a couple of years ago. You can click here to read his full story if you are interested.

Besides Meggan, some of our team members also have loved ones who have served in the military. For one team member, she grew up hearing stories about serving in the military from her great grandfather, grandfather, and great uncle. Her great grandfather served in the Pacific War front during WWII. Unlike Dr. Miller, he saw a lot of action, and was a part of many battles, one of the more well-known ones being the battle of Tarawa. Her great uncle served in the navy during the Vietnam War, also seeing many battles. Experiencing war can affect a person, and both her great grandfather and great uncle came away from their experiences changed, preferring to leave some memories in the past. War can do that to a person. Her grandfather, on the other hand, served in the navy during peacetime. He got to travel to many places around the world, seeing and experiencing various cultures, and meeting many different people.

This November, take a moment to call or text someone you know who has served. Let them know you are thinking of them and that you appreciate them. There could always be a little more light and positivity in the world, yeah?
