3 Mother’s Day Activity Ideas

~ Natalia Radcliffe ~

It’s nearing the beginning of May, which means Mother’s Day is right around the corner!  If you’re looking for ideas to make the day special for your mother or mother figure in your life, we have some ideas for you!

Southern California is home to many different kinds of activities for all interests.

For example, there are various beaches to explore, with many shops and restaurants near the shore. In Ventura, Harbor Village is located right on the beach front, so you not only have the chance to take a stroll along the water, but also the opportunity to enjoy a day of shopping at small boutique shops, playing at the arcade, renting kayak and stand up Yolos and Nalu boards, electric boats, and pedal boats, as well as enjoy good food. Speaking of food, If you’re in the mood for fish and chips, Andria’s is the place to go. You might even be lucky and see some seagull friends flying around.

Ventura isn’t the only beach to visit, however. Malibu and Santa Monica (we recommend visiting the pier that’s right on the water) are also beautiful locations with lots of things to do, from simply enjoying watching the waves rise and fall, to shopping, eating tasty food, and adventuring out into the ocean yourself.

In addition to beaches, there are also multiple wine tasting locations, if that peaks your interest. We recommend Cornell Wineries, Rosenthal Wine Bar and Patio, and Nabu Wines.

Cornell Wineries is very popular with people from all over. It’s located in the Santa Monica Mountains between Malibu and Agoura Hills. Owner Matt is a friend of ours so please tell him “Hello” from the folks at Prospector Ranch if you decide to check it out. If you‘re lucky, he will tell you some of the rich history of Cornell, which dates back to the 1800’s. If you’re looking for a meal with your wine tasting, the very special and unique Old Place Restaurant is right next door. A steakhouse that has been operating for over 50 years, you can enjoy indoor dining and outdoor dining around Cornell Wineries and The Old Place. You can sit outside, enjoy the beautiful views, (sometimes music too!) and enjoy your meal.

Rosenthal Wine Bar and Patio is located in Malibu, right across from the beach. They have great local wines. Saturdays and Sundays are 21+ only and there are added food trucks available with a DJ or live music.  It becomes quite the fun spot then. You are free to bring your own food or picnic, but no outside alcohol is allowed.

Nabu Wines is located right here in Westlake Village, and has wine tasting during the week and weekends. On Sunday nights from 6pm-10pm, guests will be able to enjoy live music. They also have music events other nights of the week as well.

If you’re a fan of being out in the thick of nature, there are also many hiking trails around the area here in Southern California. For example, there is one trail, The Grotto, that’s in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains and is about 2.5 miles. The end of the trail rewards you with a lovely small waterfall that falls off of a rock into a small enclosed pool of water below. For more information on this trail and many others, check out our past blog Places To Hike Near Prospector Ranch!

All of these places are within a reasonable distance from Prospector Ranch, so if you want to turn Mother’s Day into a Mother’s Day weekend, we have unique Airbnbs you can stay at, including a vintage 1972 airstream (pet friendly too!) a Conestoga covered wagon, a safari tent, and a miner’s camp where you can rent both the safari tent and the covered wagon. Both the safari tent and the covered wagon share a lovely rustic bathroom where you can take a long, serene bath enjoying the sights and sounds of nature in your own little secluded, private paradise. If you’re interested, check out our Bookings section on our website to learn more and to reserve your space. We look forward to meeting you!
