Labor Day Weekend is right around the corner! It marks the unofficial end of summer and the beginning of the fall months.

Except here, in California, we won’t actually be getting fall temperatures until around October.

But anyway, Labor Day Weekend isn’t just about marking the end of summer and the beginning of the school year and pumpkin spice lattes. It’s also a time to celebrate those in the workforce and an opportunity to sit and relax, spending time with loved ones, enjoying the last bits of summer before things pick up again with school, work, and the quickly approaching holiday season.

There are many ways to do a last hurrah for summer fun before we look ahead to fall. Here are 5 ideas we have that you might be interested in!

1. Glamping/Weekend Getaway

Camping can be fun, but sometimes that luxury pull of glamping can satisfy that craving. You get the best of both worlds, honestly. You get that relaxing feeling of sleeping out underneath the stars with the convenience of modern amenities that you often leave behind when going camping. If you’re looking for places to set up your glamping experience, we at Prospector Ranch have spaces to park your van, RV, or set up your tents on our property! In addition, we offer three Airbnbs on our property (a Conestoga covered wagon, vintage 1972 Airstream, or a rustic Safari tent) for you to stay in if you want to upgrade your experience. Check our bookings page to learn more!

2. Go to the Beach

Spending a day at the beach sounds like a fitting end to summer. You take in the warm sun, the cool ocean, the long sunlight hours and the busyness of the environment one last time before things start gradually cooling off and quieting down as fall and winter arrive. If you’re in Southern California for the weekend or are staying with us here Prospector Ranch, there are a plethora of beaches to choose from in various areas including Ventura, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, and Malibu. If you want a more detailed list of beaches you can visit, check out these blogs we did on beaches near us!

3. Go Hiking

There is something to be said about exploring the outdoors during the summertime. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but walking around on a warm sunny day with wildlife fluttering about and foliage in full bloom as it so often is in the spring and summertime is a different experience than the cool, sometimes more muted environment that winter brings. Here in California, during the wintertime, we can get rain more often than during the summer, which can be a turn-off for many people wanting to go on a hike. Therefore, why not take advantage of the longer and warmer days while you still can? Where Prospector Ranch is located, given that we are closer to the beach and so enjoy more temperate weather, we have plenty of days perfect for going out and exploring the outdoors. If you are staying with us, or are in the area, we have some favorite hiking trials of ours that we highly recommend. Check out this blog to learn more! Places To Hike Near Prospector Ranch

4. Go to an Amusement Park

With a three-day weekend comes more time to explore an amusement park! You can have a long day of fun and then recover for the rest of the time. If you’re in Southern California, there are a many options for you to choose. We have Six Flags in Santa Clarita, Disneyland in Anaheim, Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, and Universal Studios in Hollywood (the closest one to us at Prospector Ranch). Ticket prices for each one varies, so check out their websites to get exact numbers. Be aware: if you do decide to go on Labor Day weekend and you have a season pass, it may not work for that timeframe as it’s a holiday weekend.

5. Go See a Movie

What is a fun thing to do when you want to beat the summer heat? Go see a movie, of course. With the movie Jaws celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and being re-released in select movie theaters all throughout Labor Day weekend, what better way to say goodbye to summer than a classic summer horror movie? Re-experience the terror people felt 50 years ago when they first saw the film. Did you know when it came out back in 1975, there was a rise in fear of beaches, particularly the ocean, that summer? You can’t particularly blame people. If this sounds like something right up your alley, check your local movie listings to see if a showing is available in your area. If you are in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area like us, check out this fandango link to find local theaters showing the film! Just type in in “Westlake Village” in the location section and you will be all set.
