5 Memorial Day Events You Might Want to Look Into!
~Natalia Radcliffe ~The end of May is coming quickly, which means that Memorial Day is nigh approaching. Though it’s not one of the more popular holidays, it’s still a meaningful one nonetheless. Not only is it an unofficial start to summer, it’s also a time to remember and honor all those who have gave their lives for our country.
For those looking for things to do during Memorial Day weekend, we have you covered.
Here are 5 different events happening during Memorial Day weekend.
Best of all, these places are no more than about an hour from Prospector Ranch (except for the LA County Fair, which is about 2 hours), so if you are looking for a weekend vacation and a unique, calming place to collapse to after a long day of fun, check out one of our 3 Airbnbs on our property. Forest Lawn’s Memorial Day Event
The cemetery is hosting a variety of events across its locations across Southern California on Memorial Day. The closest one to us is in Glendale. That event starts at 1:00pm. There is free admission and parking. While observing the program, you can enjoy some sweet frozen treats. What is in the program, you might ask? According to their website, there will be a keynote address, patriotic music, invocation, ceremonial wreath presentation, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, observing the Color Guard, and a presidential proclamation.
Canoga Park is hosting their annual Memorial Day Parade! The opening ceremony is at 10:00am and the parade starts at 11:00am. It goes along Sherman Way from Owensmouth to Cozycroft street. This year’s theme is “Saluting the Price of Freedom”.
Conejo Valley Concerts in the Park
Conejo Valley Concerts in the Park series starts up again on Memorial Day! Located at Conejo Community Park, this year starts off with a Garth Brooks Tribute Band on May 25th. For anyone who likes country music, this is right up your alley! There will be various food trucks to get yummy snacks or drinks to munch one while enjoying some live music.

Garden Grove Strawberry Festival
The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival is happening Memorial Day weekend! It starts on Friday and goes all the way through Monday. On Friday, it goes from 1pm-10pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-10pm, and Monday from 10am-9pm. There are various things you can do at the festival, from listening to live music, shopping at various vendor booths, going on various thrilling rides, participating in contests, playing at various non-profit game booths, watching a parade, and much more. There is so much it would take up pages and pages here, so to see an extensive list, check out their website. Going to the festival is free, but if you want to go on any of the rides, you can purchase a one-price all day ticket in the form of a wristband that is $40 on Friday and $45 Saturday -Monday, or you can purchase individual tickets (that cost $1 each) for rides. Typically most rides require 3, 4, 5, 7, or 8 tickets each.
The LA County Fair kicked off this past weekend, and goes through May 31, which means if you are in the area for Memorial Day Weekend, you might want to check it out! Hours are 11am-11pm Thursday though Sunday. They will also be open on Memorial Day. You can buy tickets either online or at the door. For online, single- day ticket prices are Adult (13-59): $18-$25, Child (6-12): $15, and Senior (60+): $15. On-site single-day ticket prices are Adult (13-59):$32, Child (6-12): $17, and Senior (60+): $17. There are a variety of things to do at the fair, from listening to live music, shopping the variety of vendors and businesses, going on rides, watching parades, visiting Budweiser Clydesdales, enjoying live music, witnessing a variety of competitions, eating good food, and much more.
