Halloween Events Near Prospector Ranch - Part 1

~ Natalia Radcliffe ~

It’s spooky season once again! And, the spooky season brings with it a plethora of events and activities you can do to get into the spirit (pun intended).

If you are happening to stay at one of our Airbnbs this month (if you haven’t yet, be sure to check out our historically nostalgic Conestoga covered wagon, our vintage 1972 Airstream, or our rustic Safari Tent!), don’t worry, there are plenty of events an hour’s drive from here or under. Want some ideas? Keep reading!

Be brave….if you dare.

Universal Horror Nights

Universal Halloween Horror Nights is back for another year! Located in Hollywood, it’s about an hours drive with little traffic from Prospector Ranch.

This event can be very frightening, so it’s recommended that only people 13 years and older attend.

The haunted houses/mazes that are featured this year include familiar characters such as Stranger Things, Hellraiser, and Killer Clowns From Outer Space. There are also some haunted houses with unique storylines as well, such as Dead, Deader, Deadest: A Miracle of Modern Dead-icine, and Killceañera, with music by SLASH.

This year’s Terror Tram theme features Art the Clown from the movie series Terrifier, and his twisted love for the holiday season, especially Christmas.

Tickets for general admission range from around $89 dollars to $112 when you buy online, depending on the day you pick.

Reign of Terror

The Reign of Terror once again returns to Thousand Oaks! This event is about a 15-20 drive from Prospector Ranch.

Think of it as a huge haunted house, with 12 connected haunts, each with a different theme, spanning a total of 145 rooms. The themes range from a twisted funhouse, haunted hotel, a vampire’s lair, an asylum, a zombie outbreak, and much more. The entire experience takes about 20-30 minutes. In addition to the haunted house, there is also a photo opportunity where you can snap some pics to share with others or as a memento of your experience.

General admission tickets are either $44.99 (regular nights) or $49.99 (on October 16, 16, 23, 24, 30, and 31), depending on the day you go.

For a little more money, you can buy immediate access tickets that will allow you to skip the line and go right inside. However, these are limited, so make sure you snag them as soon as possible if this is the route you want to go.

The event does have two special days: A Lights Off event on November 1, and a Lights On event on October 17.

The Lights Off event is for the bravest at heart, as you brave the haunted house, complete with all the scares, in total darkness, with only one small glow stick for your entire group. If you hate the dark, this may not be for you.

General admission for this event is $44.99. This experience is available between 7pm and 10pm only.

The Lights On event is a family-friendly experience of the haunted house. It occurs during the day between 12pm-3pm only. There are no no animations, actors, or scares, so it’s a great option for those who want who prefer a less-scary experience, or to see a different perspective to the haunted house. Tickets for this event are $15, and are only available at the door on-site.

Los Angles Haunted Hay Ride

Located off of Crystal Springs Drive in Los Angeles, this is about an hours drive with little traffic from Prospector Ranch.

In addition to the hayride feature, there are also spooky mazes you can walk through, of various themes, from twisted band’s untimely demise, to a remote family with some taboo tendencies. There are also mini escape rooms you can try, axe throwing, and protecting yourself from the undead by shooting 8mm colored water balloons at them. In addition to that there is also live show you can watch, treats to try, and a souvenir shop to explore, and much more! Heads up that some of the activities such as the mini escape rooms or axe throwing, for example, are not included in the general admission ticket. Instead, you buy tickets for those events individually.

You can only buy tickets online, not at the door. General admission tickets, which includes access to all haunted house attractions, and the haunted hayride, range from $59.73 $73.12 (plus online fees), depending on the day you go. If you want a cheaper option, they have tickets available for just the Haunted Hayride attraction (in addition to exploring the venue), ranging from $44.28 to $52.52 (in addition to online fees) depending the day you go.

There are also a VIP Fast Pass and Platinum ticket options as well at a higher price tier than the general admission. For a complete list of ticket prices, you can visit their website.
