Summer vacation is fully underway! Whether you are here in Southern California for the day or for a vacation (we have a Conestoga covered wagon, an elegant rustic Safari Tent or a vintage 1972 Airstream if you are looking for somewhere unique and cozy to stay), we at Prospector Ranch have you covered with activity ideas for your itinerary!

Today, we have three events that’s happening this summer you might want to check out.

1. Ventura County Fair

The Ventura County fair has once again returned!

Taking place at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, it’s occurring from July 29- August 9. Its hours are 12pm - 11pm daily, with the exception of Tuesday, August 4, when it opens at 11 am. There are a plethora of things to do at the fair, including going on rides, eating yummy food, shopping at various vendors, concerts on select days, and admiring art. In addition, on select days, there will be the annual Flying U Rodeo on August 7, 8, and 9, though you need to purchase an extra ticket for that event ($11.45 for adults aged 13+ and $9.29 for children aged 3-12.)

If this sounds like something up your alley, we recommend checking out the “Before You Go” tab on their website prior to going, as there are some guest policies everyone should follow, such as having clear bags or unfilled water bottles, covered in the clear bag policy.

As far as tickets are concerned, there is currently early bird pricing available on their website through July 28. These prices are $18.95 for adults and $13.45 for children (ages 6-12) and seniors (ages 65 and older).

If you’re interested in purchasing tickets for a package deal on unlimited rides and/or food, you can purchase tickets here . They range from $45 to $65.

For a comprehensive list on the various individual events and ticket prices, you can visit their website for more details.

2. Concerts in the Park

The annual concerts in the park that occurs every summer in Thousand Oaks is back once again for 2026! Located at Conejo Community Park, the event this summer has an eclectic lineup that covers classic rock, pop, and 90s music. The concerts are free to attend so this is a great option if you are looking for things to do on a budget. Each concert starts at 5:00 and ends at 7:00. If you want something to eat or drink, there will be a variety of food trucks to choose from, ranging from snacks and sweet treats, meals, and refreshing drinks.

Parking will be offsite (on-site parking is limited and reserved for cars displaying disabled person parking placards until the lot is full), so we recommend arriving early so you don’t have to walk too far.

The lineup is as follows:

July 19 — Twisted Gypsy: Fleetwood Mac Tribute

August 9 — Wild Night: A Van Morrison Tribute

September 7 — 90’s Rock Show

3. Movies in the Park

The annual Movies in the Park in Moorpark returns once again! It takes place at Arroyo Vista Community Park, located off of Tierra Rejada Road. This event is also free to attend!

For the summer, the lineup will be:

July 11 — Cars

August 8 — The Princess and the Frog

September 12 — Super 8

The moves start at dusk, and the gates open 1 hour prior to dusk. There will be vendors to buy snacks or drinks from, or you can bring your own food. Closest parking will be in lots A and B, so we recommend aiming to arrive about an hour early when gates open so you can get a good parking spot.

We hope these ideas give you some inspiration! Whatever you end up choosing, we hope you enjoy your time here, basking in the temperate summer days. (All thanks to the Thousand Oaks/Ventura County area being located closer to the beach!)
