Cool Places to Visit During the Summer: Evening Concerts
~ Natalia Radcliffe ~
Imagine: you want to enjoy the nice summer weather, feeling the sun’s rays, enjoying all the outdoors has to offer. But, there is one little catch. The temperature is just too hot, easily going over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Whatever can you do?
Perhaps you consider getting your outdoor fix in the evening. One way you can do this is attend an outdoor live concert. You get to enjoy some good music and watch the sun slowly dip down in the sky, painting the clouds soft shades of pink and orange.
Thousand Oaks, Malibu, and the surrounding areas near Prospector Ranch are ripe with summer evening concerts, with most of them occurring on the weekends. Best of all, these concerts are free!! To sweeten the deal even more, all of the following locations are either about 15 or 30 minutes away from us so you don’t have far to drive to get your outdoor fix in the hot months if you are staying with us in one of our three Airbnbs. Most of these outdoor concerts also have food trucks available, so if you want something to snack on or a nice, cold drink you have those options to make the evening that much more enjoyable. After all, there is something about enjoying a nice, cold snack or beverage that just hits the spot in the summer months.
In this blog, we want to list the ones that will occur in August.
Berniece Bennett Park in Westlake Village
This is about 15 minutes from Prospector Ranch. The next concert planned is the group Surf City All Stars, performing on Saturday, August 22. Food trucks open at 6pm, and the concert begins at 7pm.
This park is about 30 minutes from Prospector Ranch. The next concert in the series is the group cover band Led Zepagain, a Led Zeppelin Tribute, performing on Sunday, August 23. The event goes from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
You can park at 21800 Califa Street across from the park and opens at 4 pm (3 pm for 4th of July). Parking fees ($20 online; $25 in person - cash only) are a donation to the Valley Cultural Foundation.
Calabasas Lake Greenbelt, adjacent to the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center
Located in Calabasas, this park is about 30 minutes from Prospector Ranch. The next upcoming concert will be a Neil Diamond Tribute, called the Fantastic Diamond. They will be performing on Sunday August 23. It starts at 6pm, and ends around 7:30pm.
There are two places you can park: the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center (there are limited spots there) or the Civic Center, from which you can catch a shuttle for free that will then drop you off at the concert. If you want to snag a parking spot closer to the park, we recommend getting there a little earlier so you can snag one of those limited parking spots at the Tennis and Swim Center!
Located in Moorpark, this park is about 30 minutes away from Prospector Ranch. The next concert will be on Saturday, August 22. This band is Soul/R&B called the Blue Breeze Band. Gates open at 5:00pm, and the music will start at 6:00pm.
Located in Simi Valley, near the 118 Freeway & Tapo Canyon Road, this venue is about 30 minutes from us. The next concert will be a dance band called JACK’D, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes! The concert goes from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
